43rd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival

April 2006
AHA kane received a standing ovation for their performance of "Ka Halau Wa'a." AHA wahine followed with a moving rendition of the hula noho “Kauila,” performed with pūniu. The audiences buzzed with excitement.

Paramount’s Great America Fall Celebration of Dance & Music

AHA Keiki performed at the Fall Celebration of Dance & Music to the accompaniment of instructors Kainani Hartnett and Sundee Amantiad.

San Francisco Aloha Festival

Hawaiian fishing and limu gathering traditions were the themes of the
dances performed by AHA’s family of dancers, including the keiki and
‘Ahamele ‘ukulele ensemble.

Villa Montalvo Arts Center

AHA performed as special guests of HAPA and Barefoot Natives Willie K and
Eric Guilliom.

Take a Walk in the Country, Honolulu

AHA performed for the 30th anniversary of the Makaha Sons. Many of
Hawaii’s most famous talents participated in the celebration.

Eo! Concert, Honolulu

AHA danced in the 6th annual Eo! Concert, which honors the memory of
Kumu Hula Darrell 'Ihi'ihilauakea Lupenui, Kumu Mark's kumu.

Satsuki Bazaar & Arts Festival

Keiki kahiko and ‘auana performances were warmly received through spring
showers at the Berkeley Buddhist Temple’s annual bazaar.

13TH Annual ‘Ukulele Festival

The Academy’s ‘Ahamele ensemble played before an audience of ‘ukulele
lovers in Hayward. One of the numbers, “My Sweet Pikake Lei,” featured
dancer-instructor Sundee Amantiad

‘Alua

November 2005
The second annual ho'ike was the premier for Kumu Mark’s new mele and
hula on the theme of fishing. Held at the Chabot College Center for the Performing
Arts in Hayward, California, Master Chanter Charles Ka'upu was Master
of Ceremonies and AHA's featured guest artists were the Makaha Sons.

Hawai’i Beauty: "Ke Aka"

April 2005
Kumu Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu, Kumu Charles Ka'upu and AHA
dancers’ performances featured as part of “Hawai’i Beauty: Through
the Eyes of Her People,” a four-part concert series at UC Irvine's Barclay
Theatre
in Irvine, CA, showcasing Hawai’i’s vibrant range of music and dance.

Ho’okahi

November 2004
AHA’s first all-halau ho’ike showcasing kahiko (ancient), ‘auana (modern),
and keiki (children’s) hula, as well as Kumu Ho’omalu’s distinctive
style of chant.

Ke Ao Hou: A New Beginning

September 2004
AHA’s premiere, sold-out performance of hula and chant in Hayward, CA. The night began with
a performance by Hawai'i's own Hapa and culminated in a colorful array of AHA
dances.

Sharks Myth and Mystery

Monterey Bay Aquarium: “Sharks: Myth and Mystery”

2004-2008
Kumu Ho’omalu commissioned to compose a chant and hula for the Monterey Bay Aquarium exhibit.
A video of the performance is on view for the duration of the installation. The exhibit won a national award in 2005; read the AHA newsletter article about this win. A segment of the video as well as the words to the chant are available online on the Aquarium's website. Watch the video clip
