Keiki at AHA

Enroll Your Child at AHA

Join us at the Academy!
Ongoing open enrollment for keiki dancers of all levels

Experienced and beginning keiki dancers alike are welcome to join the Academy of Hawaiian Arts in a Saturday's Keiki I class. Parents and their keiki are welcome to observe the Keiki I class before deciding to enroll.

Keiki Hula Curriculum:

Goals:

  • Keiki will learn hula in the context of learning about Hawai'i, elements of the culture, language, and history through age appropriate activities.
  • Each 1 hour class will have segments of hula basics, learning dances, storytelling, language through games and activities, and sometimes crafts. These segments will be related to the topic we are learning about for the week.
  • Hula basics will be strengthened through repetition, focusing attention through the use of language games, group singing/chanting, and challenges. Activities will help the keiki to understand what they are dancing about, especially since they do not live in Hawai'i.
