
Academy of Hawaiian Arts offers a strong foundation in hula fundamentals for all levels of dancers.
All adult hula classes are currently taught by Kumu Hula Mark
Keali'i Ho'omalu.
Saturday • 11:30am-1:30pm
An introduction to the Academy of Hawaiian Arts style of
hula for those who have little or no hula background. This class concentrates on the fundamentals
of hula basics, movement, posture, chanting, and body strengthening. All new members of the
Academy will begin at Level I regardless of past hula experience. Students will advance to Level
II upon instructor evaluation and approval. Enrollment is ongoing.

Saturday • 2:00-4:00pm
An intermediate level class that builds a stronger foundation of hula fundamentals. This
class takes the student's knowledge of hula and expands into more complex motions and dances.

Thursday • 7:00p-9:00pm
Hula Le'a is a non-performing, recreational hula class for those dancers that would like
to build their hula skills during the week. Some hula or dance experience is prefered for
enrollment. Potential dancers should attend the class where their proficiency will be evaluated.
If potential dancers do not have sufficient hula or dance fundamentals, then it will be recommended
that the dancer enroll in the Level I class. This class is not intended to train dancers for
AHA performances.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday • 7:00-9:00pm
An advanced level class geared towards the development of songs and dances used for public
performances. A fast paced class requiring a strong hula background. Dancers undergo intense
physical endurance training with the possibility of participating in stage performances.
Although this group trains for performances, dancers in this class are not guaranteed participation
in any performances.
